Day 20: Art is Pain

Given that I have trouble getting a post up every day, I figured I'd make it easier on myself and try to get two posts up every day. Because Emily-logic is more fun, and shinier, than normal logic.

Regular logic:

I'm typing awkwardly today, because I'm wearing my wrist brace. My carpal tunnel came back. I take that as a very encouraging sign! The last time the ol' CP flared up was when I was furiously typing 15, 25 pages a day, between working on my TPA (a horrendously detailed account of everything I did in student teaching, which included the words "cum folder" far too often for anyone's comfort) (That's short for "cumulative," you weirdo. What kind of school do you think this is?) and my novel. So the fact that it's back now makes me feel good about the work I'm getting done.

It also might have something to do with the 753,496 games of "Snake" I've played.

Shhhhh.

I enjoy the carpal tunnel though, despite the fact that it sends shooting pain from the tips of my fingers up to my elbows and makes it impossible for me to grip things in my right hand. It feels good, the way the first sunburn of the season feels good. I enjoy suffering for my art. Oh, you find that melodramatic? "It's carpal tunnel," you say. "You aren't being stretched on the rack."

Fine, fine. It's not that bad. But it's bad enough that I get a feeling of triumph from persevering through the pain. And that little ego trip, apparently, is something I require.

It's ok, the logicicorn will explain it to you.
