Harper Voyager is ruining my life

So a few weeks ago, in early September, Harper Voyager (the fantasy and science fiction division of Harper publishing) announced that it will be accepting un-agented manuscripts--but only for two weeks, from October 1-14. They said they're looking for fresh voices (read: cheap) to publish electronically. They don't say anything about paying, but come on. I'm an unpublished, wannabe-YA-author. I'd sell someone my firstborn to publish my book.
Ok, I exaggerate. Only if my firstborn was really ugly.
Anyway, this announcement has fueled my resolve to finish my manuscript and send it off in time if it kills me. Which it might, since school has started and I'm now writing approximately 7, 000 words a day between 18 hours of classes.
Exaggerating again.
Still, it's been rough. People have started to comment on how I never leave my dorm room, and am beginning to resemble some kind of bridge-dwelling troll creature due to my lack of exposure to sunlight. I hate these people like I hate it when Pandora times out. Yes, Pandora, I'm still listening! You won't be playing to an empty room until October 15th, when, for better or for worse, the deadline will have passed, and I'll either be filled with bubbling, champagne-like hope, or the thick poop slushie of disappointment in myself.

If I don't die of fatal carpal tunnel first.

Is anyone else trying like crazy to get their book ready for Harper's deadline? Give me a hint here, what's my competition like? Leave me a comment, let me know!

If you'd like to read the announcement from Harper Voyager itself, you can find it here.

  1. Well GOod luck!! I sure hope It's champagne rather than poop slushie! And don't worry about leaving your room. The Sun is overrated anyway.

  2. I agree with CBWS!!! You have only so much time to finish your book... And the world NEEDS to read your work! Your blog is just a sample of the wonderfulness of Emily Pryor's words. Can't wait to read your book, as well. ;)
